Collection Eternity- Low Solar Absorption Powder

The month of September sees the official launch of Interpon Collection Eternity form AkzoNobel South Africa.

News of the impending launch has been greeted with great enthusiasm for the Architectural market due to the unique solar reflecting properties of the range. In short this new range of powder coating range is specifically formulated for the Architectural market on aluminium to reflect heat away from the window frame or facade, resulting in a reduction of energy consumption, by reducing the need to cool or heat the building.

AkzoNobel has always been at the cutting edge, developing products that improve sustainability and diminish environmental impact, i.e. stopping the use of lead as n component before legislation was passed in the EU.

Sustainable architecture uses a more environmentally conscious approach to design, that seeks to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings with efficient use of energy and materials. Such an approach can only help to reduce the effects of global warming along with a phenomenon known as urban heat island

Heat island affects communities by increasing summertime peak energy demand, air conditioning costs, air pollution and damaging our quality of life, resulting in heat-related illness and even, in some cities, complete blackouts.

We can help to counteract the heat island effect with the use of reflective building materials on houses, roofs, pavements and roads. The use of such materials can also lower energy demand, air conditioning costs, air pollution and help promote a better quality of life.

South Africa’s construction industry has already gone green with the new energy efficiency building regulations that came into effect in 2012, boosting a growing trend of cutting-edge green architecture in the country.

All new buildings have to use solar water heaters, heat pumps or similar technologies, while ceilings, walls and windows have to meet minimum requirements in insulation, to minimise heating in winter and cooling in summer. Buildings also have to be fitted with energy-efficient heating, air conditioning and mechanical ventilation systems.

The new regulations are defined in the South African Bureau of Standards’ SANS 10400 XA standard, and enforceable in terms of the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act. A higher standard, SANS 204, remains voluntary.

Black is Green.

Interpon D2525 ECO powder coatings contain a reflective pigment that deflects the infrared light, and thus the sun’s total heat, from any substrate that it coats. As a result, the surface of the substrate, and any interior spaces that it protects, are cooler than if painted with a standard coating, even with dark colours.

Contributing to Green Architecture by:

Reduction of surface temperatures for aluminium building components

Lower air conditioning costs

Protect natural sources & help reduce pollution, reducing CO2 emission

Mitigate urban heat island effects

AkzoNobel’s Green Credentials

August 2011 – AkzoNobel Powder Coatings were awarded SMaRT Sustainable Platinum qualification.

AkzoNobel Powder Coatings is the FIRST Coatings Company to achieve a SMaRT certification

Sustainable Platinum is the highest level a company can achieve

This certification is part of our continued focus to integrate sustainability into everything we do.

In 2012 AkzoNobel was ranked 196 out of the top 500 companies by the Annual Newsweek GREEN RATINGS, and number 1 in the category, materials.

Durability Track record

Interpon D2525 Eternity Collection products are complied with Qualicoat Class 2, GSB Master and AAMA 2604 certifications, under the relative certifications for Interpon D2525 Matt product range

The first Interpon D2000 project was completed 1991, known as Mission Hospital California U.S.A.; this project has yielded class leading durability results in colour and gloss retention.

Interpon D2525 Collection Eternity come standard with n 25 year product guarantee and 15 year PROJECT guarantee that guarantees the performance of the powder coating on the building after application. All guarantees are available through our network of Interpon Approved Applicators.

Cost effective

Having excess to the latest green technology does not have come at a premium, as the entire range will be manufactured at the Alberton factory.
